Customizable Spelling Games
Spelling Stars provides the perfect platform to create customizable spelling games. Our games are fully customizable, and the word search, fill-in-the-blank, and word scramble are also printable for offline work.
How to Create Customizable Spelling Games
1. Register for your free trial or log in to your account.
2. The first step is to create a custom spelling list. Go to the menu option Manage Lists > Add Lists, then name your list (example: Grade 4 Week 1). The other items are optional. Click the Add List button to go to the next page, where you will add words.
3. Then, enter your words and sentences one at a time. You can use AI to help you with sentences as well. When you are done adding your list, you can assign the list (step 4)
- Word Type: We recommend only changing these settings if you plan to create a differentiated list.
- Enter your word
- Enter your practice sentence or click on "suggest a sentence" for one of our word bank sentences or an AI-written sentence. Please check all sentences for accuracy.
- Then click Add Word and continue like this until you are done adding your words.
4. Assign that list you just made for practice & games. Go to the menu Assign Lists > Assign List for Practice & Games. Select the list from your teacher list box. Then select the recipients (class, group, or student) and click the green assign button. A box will appear for you to enter beginning and end dates and times. *If you are using Google Classroom, it will create an assignment to which you can assign points. This assignment will also appear on Google Classroom, and you can sync those points back to Google Classroom later under Reports for Student Gameplay.*
5. Now, have your students log in and click on the games button, the games menu option, or the link under their To Do List for games so that they can play games with the words you've entered in your list.
